| ~ that protocol is being promoted for use |

With the advent of FRS in Canada we thought that it would be advantageous to inform the users that search and rescue resources are available in the local area and what to do should it become necessary to rely on those resources. In particular how to use their FRS radio to assist the search group. Lastly how they could avoid using those resources by following simple precautions One of the main reasons for having this page for FRS users is to coordinate radio use during a search to increase the likelihood of a successful outcome. The limitations of the radio, its limited range for instance, do not make it a useful tool for getting help but it could be very useful in helping searchers to locate you once the search was under way. We originally devised a protocol for our use in our search area. We proposed that other groups in BC adopt this protocol so that users throughout the province would be able to feel confident that a common standard was being used. However in recent times a new protocol has taken hold in the Lower Mainland and that protocol is being promoted for use through out the province. For the same reasons that we proposed our original protocol we have switched to the new one. |
